As a Fibre Specialist in Calgary, reporting to the Unified Fibre Planning Sr. Manager, West, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of fibre optic solutions and projects. Working closely with network designers and planning specialists, you will navigate a dynamic environment focused on network growth and technology advancements within Rogers' cable territory network. This role requires a strong understanding of HFC and fibre optic plant design, along with experience in troubleshooting fibre optic circuits and providing essential support to various technical groups.

Key Duties

  • Responsible for the delivery of fibre optic projects in a dynamic environment with varying degrees of complexity, timeframes, and capital.
  • Responsible for the design and planning of standard and new optical architecture, considering optical link reach, fibre design efficiency, network reliability, redundancy, and scalability.
  • Accurately document fibre details on existing fibre assets and take all necessary steps to ensure data integrity of the fibre network is maintained.
  • Provide technical support to system planners and network specialists for the selection of routes, ensuring optimum cost effectiveness and performance of our existing and expanding fibre network.
  • Plan end-to-end fibre solutions and/or provide instruction to support staff and engineering contractors for the successful delivery of plans.
  • Review business requirements and engineering plans to deliver accurate and reliable fibre solutions.
  • Manage existing inside cable territory fibre network and provide detailed instructions to technical staff.
  • Ensure projects are completed to engineering specifications, planning requirements, and delivered on time.
  • Provide fibre network design alternatives and assist in optimizing fibre network capability.
  • Provide support for the operation, maintenance, and restoration of the fibre network.

Requirements

  • Previous relevant work experience, preferably in Outside Plant Engineering.
  • Sound knowledge of HFC and Fibre Optic Networks Telecommunications Environment experience is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of all Microsoft applications, AutoCAD, SpatialNET.
  • Post-secondary education in telecommunications, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing multiple, simultaneous, high volume projects.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and on a team.
  • Detail-oriented with an aptitude for tracking progress across many projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational, written, verbal, and time management skills.
  • Ability to achieve results through teamwork.
  • Sound knowledge of Rogers Wireline Access Network is an asset.
