About the role
The City of Saskatoon is seeking a dedicated Supervisor X for a night shift acting position within its Roadways, Fleet and Support Services Department. Under the supervision of a Superintendent, this role is crucial for overseeing and supporting shop employees and daily operations. As required, you will also actively participate in regular Journeyperson duties, ensuring the efficient maintenance and management of the City of Saskatoon fleet.
Day-to-day
As a Supervisor X, your daily duties will involve a blend of leadership, coordination, and hands-on support for the Fleet Services team. Key responsibilities include:
- Assigning work and daily tasks, providing staff supervision, and assisting staff with their daily duties as required.
- Providing leadership and mentorship to Fleet Services employees and supporting staff development.
- Consulting and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders regarding repairs and equipment status.
- Collaborating with the Service Writer to monitor sublet units and delegating the pick-up and delivery of units and parts.
- Coordinating and overseeing the completion of repairs and preventative maintenance inspections, such as government safety inspections, aerial inspections, and other related inspections of the fleet.
- Coordinating repairs found on inspections, service rack, grease rack, and wash rack as required.
- Providing support and direction for mechanical repairs, as required, to enable staff to complete work efficiently.
- Collaborating with Superintendents on campaigns, bulletins, updates, product and technology support.
- Ensuring safe work practices are followed and participating in safety investigations as required.
- Communicating and reviewing shop operations with Fleet Services Superintendents.
- Supporting and promoting the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures.
- Maintaining and monitoring programs which affect public and employee health and safety.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a strong background in fleet maintenance, supervisory experience, and a commitment to safety. The required qualifications include:
- Grade 12 education.
- Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson designation in an applicable trade related to City of Saskatoon fleet maintenance and management. Possession of a recognized Apprenticeship Certificate is preferred.
- Successful completion of recognized courses related to the industry, such as safety system changes and computer technology.
- Five years of journeyperson related experience in an applicable trade, including three years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of a valid WHMIS certificate.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver’s Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the team, the public, contractors, and all civic employees.
- Thorough knowledge of the operation and use of current diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Considerable knowledge of electronic engines, electronic transmissions, fuel systems, brake systems, and associated components.
- Ability to deliver proficient customer service and carry out the responsibilities of the position in accordance with corporate values.
- Demonstrated ability to understand technical service manuals and bulletins.
- Ability to complete and process all forms and reports.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
- Skill in the operation of a computer.
