As a Supervisor VI with the City of Saskatoon, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and mobility of residents during the winter season. This position involves direct supervision of Roadways crews, overseeing essential winter road, back lane, and sidewalk operations and maintenance. Your leadership will ensure that all work activities meet approved standards and service level commitments, contributing to the efficient functioning of Saskatoon's infrastructure.

• Supervises, trains, directs, and evaluates staff engaged in operations and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and back lanes in the Roadways Section.
• Ensures work activities of crews are performed in accordance with approved standards and procedures to ensure quality work, achievement of service level commitments, and the safety of crews and the public.
• Maintains comprehensive records and monitors and reports work progress daily.
• Ensures crews complete forms and reports required in a timely and accurate manner.
• Enforces all policies and procedures with their staff, including safety, hours of work, and respectful workplace policies.
• Plans work for Roadways crews based on requirements and available resources and collaborates with internal groups in the planning, scheduling, and reporting of work completed by Roadways crews.
• Investigates and records actions taken in response to emerging issues on streets, sidewalks, and back lanes that are impacting the safety and mobility of residents.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Who we're looking for

The City of Saskatoon is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for this Supervisor VI role. We require a candidate with a strong background in winter maintenance operations and proven leadership capabilities. Your ability to manage crews, ensure compliance with safety standards, and maintain accurate records will be key to success in this vital role within our administration jobs in Saskatoon.

• Grade 12 education or equivalent program or credential.
• Five years’ experience in winter road, sidewalk, and back lane maintenance, including understanding of basic equipment operation and maintenance.
• Three years’ supervisory experience.
• Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.
• Successful completion, or ability to complete, supervisory courses.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinates.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, lead, and encourage staff to develop skills and work towards organizational and departmental goals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to follow all applicable procedures, policies, legislation, regulations, standards, and specifications.
• Demonstrated ability to regularly and consistently attend work to ensure effective operations and service delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the team, the public, contractors, and all civic employees.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current methods, materials, work practices, and equipment related to summer and winter Roadways operations and maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate logistics for Roadways operations and maintenance.
• Knowledge of related engineering terminology and techniques.
• Knowledge of Service Levels for Street Cleaning and Sweeping, Snow and Ice Management, and Road Maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and apply the technical skills required for this position.
• Ability to coach crew members to enhance their work performance, resolve conflicts, and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment to accomplish work objectives and adapt to and implement changes that impact Roadways crews and services to residents.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Knowledge and experience with ERP systems and Microsoft 365 apps.
• Requires Security Check.

You will also engage with internal groups within the City of Saskatoon for planning and scheduling, and interact with the public and contractors as needed.
