About the role

The City of Saskatoon is seeking a dedicated Payment & Remittance Supervisor to join its Corporate Financial Services division, specifically within the Corporate Revenue Department. This permanent full-time position plays a crucial role in overseeing the processing of payments and related financial data, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance. Reporting to the Banking and Revenue Operations Manager, you will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of the City's financial transactions and revenue streams.

Day-to-day

As the Payment & Remittance Supervisor, your daily responsibilities will encompass a broad range of supervisory and operational tasks, focusing on payment processing and financial oversight. You will lead a team, ensure adherence to financial controls, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Corporate Revenue Department.

  • Supervise, support, develop, and evaluate staff, assisting with ongoing performance management and the development of performance expectations for quality and service standards.
  • Oversee data and payment processing operations, identifying opportunities for improvement while ensuring alignment with departmental objectives.
  • Reconcile and verify financial transactions, investigate discrepancies, and ensure compliance with risk management practices, internal controls, financial regulations, and audit requirements.
  • Provide payment-related support to stakeholders, including managing EFT vendors, processing foreign currency and batch payments, and performing payment refund and invoicing processes.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex issues and complaints, liaising with internal teams, external agencies, and the public.
  • Review, recommend, and support the implementation of revisions to standards, procedures, internal controls, and forms related to payments and data processing.
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of new systems and technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and experience

To excel in this Payment & Remittance Supervisor role, candidates must possess a strong background in financial services and demonstrated leadership capabilities. The City of Saskatoon values both formal education and practical experience in managing revenue transactions and payment systems.

  • Graduation from a two-year, post-secondary program in financial services, accounting, business, or related field.
  • Four years’ experience in financial services and/or coordinating the processing of revenue transactions and data, including two years’ in a supervisory role.
  • Considerable knowledge of payment systems, cash handling processes, reconciliations, and financial controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, supervise, and coach staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage several concurrent priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data, identify underlying issues, and recommend required changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures related to accounting and business practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal respectfully, courteously, and tactfully with external agencies, other civic employees, and the public in difficult circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Skill in the use of a computer using the Microsoft Office Suite.
