The Opportunity

Join the City of Saskatoon as a Deputy Assistant Chief - Asset Management within the Saskatoon Fire Department. Your Impact

As Deputy Assistant Chief, your contributions will directly enhance the operational effectiveness and resource management of the Saskatoon Fire Department. You will oversee critical functions, ensuring the seamless integration of new technologies and the continuous improvement of asset lifecycles. Your primary duties will include:

  • Manages the Maintenance and Mechanical sections within the Logistics Division of the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD).
  • Leads the transition from the department’s legacy asset management systems to SAP’s Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) platform, ensuring integration into a modern digital infrastructure.
  • Manages assigned staff; hires, approves work schedules, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary and performs layoff and recall. Plans and approves staff development. Conducts performance management and, when required, disciplinary action.
  • Collaborates with the SFD Executive Officer team to ensure logistical and operational strategies meet the needs of the Saskatoon Fire Department.
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of the operating and capital budgets for the division, including expenditure analysis and financial forecasting.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to enhance efficiency, accountability, and service delivery across the department.
  • Manages the procurement, inventory, and disposition of departmental assets, ensuring proper documentation and lifecycle tracking.
  • Plans, tracks, and supports training and certification requirements for all Logistics staff to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Utilizes EAM system data to forecast long-term maintenance requirements, repair trends, and associated costs.
  • Establishes operational goals, performance standards, and outcome measurements within the EAM framework.
  • Implements and monitors preventative maintenance programs to extend the life and efficiency of departmental assets.
  • Ensures all asset management activities meet regulatory and safety compliance requirements.
  • Updates the department’s inventory processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Acts as a liaison between SFD and City of Saskatoon Facilities staff.
  • Supports and promotes a safe and healthy work environment in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and departmental policies.
  • Acts as a member of the Management/Labor Committee with Local 80, I.A.F.F.
  • Assumes the duties of the Assistant Chief of Logistics and Fire Service Technology, as required.
  • Represents the Department and the City of Saskatoon with other agencies in public and private sectors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
