Key Responsibilities and Operational Excellence
As a General Operator, you will assume various crucial positions within the Control Room and Studio, demonstrating adaptability and technical proficiency. This includes roles such as Graphics Operator, Audio Operator, Camera Operator (both Robotic and Pedestal), and Master Control Operator (MCO). A significant part of your role will be to provide scheduled daily break coverage for all control room staff, ensuring continuous operational flow. You will also be required to cover any crew shortages that may arise due to illness or late arrivals, highlighting the need for flexibility. A critical duty involves verifying all video and still images intended for scheduled broadcasts and subsequently emailing a detailed report of any missing or incorrect items. Furthermore, you will be responsible for sending connection invites to remote guests and conducting technical tests with them as required, meticulously noting any concerns to ensure a smooth broadcast. Following the conclusion of live productions, it is essential to ensure that cameras and cables are securely stored, the overnight playlist is running correctly, the overnight bug is active, and the on-air signal is being monitored effectively. Any equipment faults discovered must be documented and reported promptly to Engineering for resolution. Other duties may be required to support the overall broadcast operations.
Qualifications and Professional Development
To succeed in this role, candidates must bring a Degree or Diploma in Broadcast Technology/Production or a closely related field. Proven experience in various studio and control room positions, particularly within live production environments, is essential. A strong working knowledge of broadcast and editing equipment is also a key requirement. You will need excellent analytical and technical skills to effectively operate various broadcast control systems and their associated peripherals. The ability to multi-task efficiently and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment is paramount.
