About the Receiving Associate Role

As a Full-Time Receiving Associate at Home Depot in St. Vital, you will play a crucial role in the efficient flow of merchandise into the store. This position requires meticulous attention to detail as you unload freight from various carriers, ensuring the quantity and quality of incoming merchandise. Associates are responsible for accurately processing and entering information about these deliveries into the store's system, often using tools like the First Phone. A key aspect of the role involves handling all types of inbound freight, including BOSS and special orders, and comparing vendor packing slips and shipping documents to purchase orders to maintain accuracy. You will also be responsible for scheduling deliveries and pre-posting information into the receiving system, counting carton freight, and performing Rough Goods Receipt (RGR) and Detail Goods Receipt (DGR) to satisfy freight bills. Identifying and taking appropriate action for damaged merchandise is also a critical duty. Beyond receiving, associates contribute to stocking merchandise onto shelves to ensure 100% in-stock levels, merchandising new items, and building end caps and promotions. Maintaining a clean and safe receiving area, including using compactors and bailers, is also part of the daily routine. Effective communication with other Freight Team associates is essential to ensure all product is stocked correctly and to inform the Fulfillment Team about merchandise in-stock levels, ultimately supporting our customers.

Skills, Qualifications, and Work Environment

This demanding yet rewarding role requires a high level of work commitment and the ability to learn and strictly follow established procedures. All Receiving Associates are required to be licensed to use powered lift equipment, such as electric pallet jacks, reach trucks, order pullers, and forklifts, which are essential for unloading trucks and moving freight from receiving to designated staging areas. Previous forklift experience is considered a valuable asset. Candidates must demonstrate strong attention to detail, act with integrity, and communicate effectively with both team members and customers. The ability to identify product, article, and vendor information using store systems and tools is crucial for providing efficient service to our customers. Physically, the role requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy and bulky items, often without assistance. Associates will also need to walk and stand for extended periods, climb ladders up to 12-16 feet to stock or obtain merchandise, and respond to public address system announcements. The work environment in the warehouse can be dusty and noisy, with potential for uneven walking surfaces and temperature changes due to open doors. Safety orientation is paramount, as associates may handle merchandise and tools with sharp edges or hazardous materials. A minimum of one year of receiving experience and a high school diploma or equivalent are required for this position.
