Your Impact

As a Receiving Associate at The Home Depot in Pointe-Claire, you play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient flow of merchandise and supporting overall store operations. You'll be part of a team responsible for unloading and processing incoming freight, maintaining accurate inventory information, and ensuring products are ready for our customers. This position is vital for helping other associates succeed and making an impact by guiding customers to the right solutions for their projects.

  • Receiving Merchandise:
  • Understanding carrier unload processes for efficient freight management.
  • Strictly following receiving standards.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the receiving area (e.g., removing pallets and cardboard boxes, using compactor and bailer, clearing space for new merchandise).
  • Unloading merchandise using designated equipment.
  • Receiving all types of inbound freight, including BOSS and special orders.
  • Identifying and reading vendor packing slips, carrier shipping documents, UPC labels, and other receiving documents, comparing them to purchase orders to ensure accuracy.
  • Scheduling deliveries and pre-posting information into the receiving system.
  • Counting carton freight and RGR merchandise to satisfy freight bills.
  • Identifying damaged merchandise and taking appropriate action.
  • Handling Merchandise:
  • Stocking merchandise onto shelves to achieve 100% in-stock.
  • Using appropriate safety procedures when organizing merchandise.
  • Merchandising new items as directed.
  • Building end caps and promotions.
  • Breaking down and disposing of trash by end of shift.
  • Maintaining safe and organized overheads (e.g., striping overheads).
  • Communicating with other Freight Team members to ensure all product is stocked in the proper place.
  • Communicating in-stock level of merchandise with the Fulfillment Team.
  • Determining and Meeting Customers' Needs:
  • Demonstrating GET behaviours consistently throughout each shift.
  • Approaching and greeting customers.
  • Asking open-ended questions and expressing interest in projects to put the customer at ease, determine customers’ level of expertise, and determine customers’ needs.

  • Licensing: All Receiving Associates are required to be licensed to use powered lift equipment (i.e., electric pallet jack, reach truck, order puller, forklift).

The physical demands of this role are significant, requiring the ability to handle heavy merchandise and navigate a dynamic warehouse environment. Associates must be prepared for the following:

  • Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items. Frequently requires the ability to lift and move heavy and bulky items without assistance.
  • Responding to public address system announcements. Requires listening for customer service calls, personal pages, and general information announcements.
  • Walking and Standing. Requires moving around the store to assist customers.
  • Identifying and reading reports, tickets, and UPC labels. Requires recognizing, identifying, and using merchandise and necessary reports.
  • Climbing Ladders. Requires being able to climb a ladder, up to the height of 12 - 16 feet, to obtain or stock merchandise.
  • Due to forklifts and other heavy equipment travelling through the store, temporary cracks may appear in the floor, causing an uneven walking surface.
  • The warehouse environment can be dusty and noisy.
  • Doors are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes.
  • Floors around the work area may become slippery during wet weather conditions.
  • May have to handle merchandise and work with tools with sharp edges.
  • Tools, supplies, and related merchandise may contain hazardous material.
