- Ability to read and understand technical repair and parts manuals for equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other components.
- Knowledge of and/or experience driving delivery trucks, towing tandem axle utility trailers and towable construction equipment, operating safely within high traffic or congested city zones and in small areas.
- Working understanding of safe load securement, tie downs, and transport.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Transportation guidelines and Safety regulations.
- Ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances, including weather, traffic, and others.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, doing what is necessary to exceed customer expectations.
- Experience in equipment rental industry, auto/truck mechanic, oil and gas mechanical, light industrial equipment, mechanical/technical aptitude.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Your Impact
As a Lead Rental Technician, your daily impact will be significant, directly contributing to the success of our rental store operations and customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of a diverse equipment fleet, ensuring all items are in top working order. This includes major repairs on gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems. Your expertise will ensure the safety and reliability of our rental equipment for every customer, upholding Home Depot’s core values and safety policies.
- Responsible for maintaining a fleet of rental equipment at store and company shop locations, and customer job sites.
- Ensure fleet inventory accuracy and GPS system is operational, with 3 points of security on all towable equipment.
- Complete major repairs for large equipment fleet in assigned store locations.
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair all components of the equipment/trailer, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and order parts within 48 hours of a tool being placed on the Down List.
- Foster a culture of customer service & support and GET involved with TRC associates to provide the solutions our rental customers need.
- Obtain parts needed for repairs and maintain timely and accurate parts inventory.
- Assist with equipment deployment, deliveries and auctions as required.
- Maintain vehicle compliance in accordance with company, provincial regulations and Ministry of Transportation guidelines.
- Maintain & certify accurate Electronic Logging Device (ELD - Samsara), Hours of Service (HOS) driver logs/vehicle inspections and vehicle documentation.
- Deploy new equipment to store locations, including performing pre-delivery inspections (PDI), delivering to the store.
- Maintain accurate fleet inventory and transfer equipment between locations.
- Communicate clearly, both verbal and written, partnering with store TRC associates, teammates, and customers.
- Coordinate with Regional Rental Manager (RRM) to provide training and support to Store TRCs on large equipment standards operating procedures (SOP) and best practices.
- Respond to customer service calls by responding to emails with relevant status updates, coordinating with customer on facilitating repair, and arriving on-site within 24 hours.
- Utilize equipment reporting to formulate efficient service strategies with Mobile Service Technicians (MSTs).
- Utilize company technology platform to document all work performed on equipment, including labor and parts.
- Lay out workflow process prioritizing key action items to improve efficiency.
- Communicate any large equipment rental status updates to store TRC associates and ensure work orders are completed in D365 including documentation for all parts and repairs.
- Work in accordance with all safety protocols by following all Home Depot policies, such as: Home Depots standards of Performance, safe driving practices, using proper lifting techniques, and utilizing all necessary and prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow all safety and Hazmat procedures.
- Maintain Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) certifications and store inspection compliance.

You will collaborate closely with Tool Rental Centre associates across various Home Depot store locations, providing them with technical expertise and support.
