Key Responsibilities and Daily Operations

The Deli Utility Clerk plays a vital role in the daily operations of the deli, with a strong focus on customer care and operational excellence. You will be responsible for providing positive customer relations by expertly handling questions, comments, requests, and complaints, working proficiently and friendly within a diverse team environment. Core duties include all aspects of the deli utility function, such as efficiently stocking and facing displays to maintain presentation and optimal stock levels. You will handle merchandise with care, minimizing damages and ensuring price integrity, including accurate price changes and providing substitutions when necessary. General clean-up duties, like addressing spills and cleaning display fixtures, are essential to maintain a neat and organized department. Furthermore, you are responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area free of cardboard and debris, including proper garbage disposal. Adherence to Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations is paramount to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers. The role also involves the proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment, reporting any repair requirements. You will be responsible for ordering and receiving merchandise and supplies, including reviewing invoices, processing returns, transfers, and claims, and ensuring proper product storage. Assisting in organizing and conducting inventory is another key task. In locations with liquor licenses, strict adherence to Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission rules is required. You may also prepare deli platters and trays, operate roasters, and handle cash procedures if the location has a deli till. In locations with a Bistro, assistance with customer service or food preparation may be required. Candidates should have Grade 9 education or an acceptable combination of education and experience, along with previous retail or related experience. Deli product knowledge and experience will be considered a significant asset.
