About the Role

As an Area Manager, Ship Repair at J.D. Irving, you will play a pivotal leadership role in the dynamic shipbuilding environment in Halifax. You will be directly responsible for all work assigned and performed within your designated area, leading multi-disciplined teams to execute overall strategy and build plans. This critical position involves providing comprehensive oversight into safety, quality, cost, and schedule, working cross-functionally with various departments to drive production output and achieve business objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring compliance with all Company Environmental, Health and Safety policies and identifying or suggesting changes to promote safety awareness.
• Managing and deconflicting all production activities in assigned areas to maximize schedule performance.
• Analyzing risks to the production schedule in your area and taking appropriate action, including but not limited to; material, resources, conflicting activities, and scope change.
• Working closely with outside support departments to effectively manage schedule performance and identified risks.
• Collaborating with trades teams, subcontractors, planning, and production control to outline the execution plan for your area based on the schedule.
• Proactively removing barriers to ensure continuity in production and escalating items as required.
• Providing 5S leadership for your designated areas.

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this Area Manager role, you will bring a strong background in leadership within a manufacturing or shipbuilding context. J.D. Irving values both formal education and practical experience, seeking individuals who can contribute effectively from day one. Demonstrated project management and supervisory experience is considered a significant asset.

Key qualifications include:

• 5+ years in a relevant manufacturing or shipbuilding leadership role.
• Project Management/Supervisory experience is an asset.
• Software experience (i.e. Microsoft, Aveva, P6, UPV) considered an asset.
• Post-secondary degree/diploma with relevant experience.
• Red seal with relevant experience.
• Project Management (PMP) considered an asset.
• Relevant trade/engineering certification (e.g. NACE, SWB, etc.) considered an asset.
• Certification in a Continuous Improvement processes (i.e. Six Sigma) would be an asset.
