About the Opportunity: Assistant Professor, Canadian Politics

The University of Toronto's Department of Political Science, within the Faculty of Arts & Science, is seeking applications for a full-time tenure stream Assistant Professor specializing in Canadian Politics. This vital faculty role, located at the St. George campus in downtown Toronto, has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. We are looking for an individual whose teaching and research will significantly enhance the theoretical and empirical understanding of Canadian politics, both domestically and in a comparative perspective. We welcome diverse theoretical and methodological approaches.

Qualifications for Academic Excellence

Candidates for this Assistant Professor position must possess a PhD degree in Political Science or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. A demonstrated record of excellence in both research and teaching is paramount. We seek individuals whose expertise complements and deepens the existing strengths of our department.

Evidence of research excellence can be demonstrated through:

• A record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards
• Presentations at significant conferences
• A compelling submitted research statement outlining current and future interests
• Awards and accolades
• Strong endorsements from referees of high standing

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through:

• Teaching accomplishments
• A comprehensive teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application
• Strong letters of reference

Key Responsibilities and Contributions

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, establishing an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. This faculty role also includes significant undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities on the University of Toronto's downtown campus, alongside a service load to the department and university community.

Compensation and Commitment to Equity

The expected salary range for this Assistant Professor role is $120,000 to $160,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
