The University Health Network (UHN) is actively seeking a dedicated Supervisor, Facilities Management to join our team in Toronto. What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities
As the Supervisor, Facilities Management, you will perform a broad range of critical duties essential to the smooth operation of UHN's infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include directing and controlling service quality, coordinating workloads, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. This role demands a proactive approach to facilities management, with a strong emphasis on safety and operational efficiency.
- Directs and controls the activities and quality of services provided by the facilities team.
- Coordinates workloads, assigns work duties and tasks, and monitors activities of assigned employees.
- Completes employee evaluations for assigned staff on a schedule determined by the Hospital, fostering a diversified workforce.
- Backfills the Manager, Facility Operations when required, demonstrating leadership and continuity.
- Reviews work in progress, checking for conformance to job specifications and Federal, Provincial, and Municipal requirements, regulations, and standards; instructs personnel when performance does not comply.
- Provides direct supervision to front-line staff, guiding their daily tasks and professional development.
- Performs quality management responsibilities to uphold high standards across all operations.
- Performs financial management responsibilities, ensuring fiscal prudence and resource optimisation.
- Performs planning responsibilities, including formulating strategic infrastructure renewal recommendations and creating equipment/building renewal priority lists.
- Performs personnel development functions to maintain a productive and skilled work environment.
- Performs corporate management functions, aligning departmental goals with UHN's broader objectives.
- Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies, and contraventions in a timely manner, ensuring workplace safety.
Qualifications for Success
To excel in this Supervisor, Facilities Management role at UHN, candidates must possess a strong foundation in a relevant trade and demonstrated experience in facilities management, particularly within a healthcare setting. The ability to manage complex situations and communicate effectively is paramount.
- Completion of a 2-year community college program leading to a trade certification in Electrical, Millwright, Carpentry, or Plumbing, or a recognised equivalent.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of maintaining multiple communication channels.
- Ability to implement sustainable and beneficial change within the facilities operations.
- Ability to coordinate many activities concurrently, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to handle emergency and/or crisis situations effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to use all tools and equipment common to the trades.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of department staff positions for training and demonstration purposes.
- Demonstrated and maintained working knowledge of Hospital accreditation requirements, industry standards, Hospital policies and procedures, financial control principles, Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Infection Prevention and Control Standards, and environmental waste management regulations.
- Demonstrated experience and working knowledge in facilities management within a healthcare environment, ensuring efficient and compliant infrastructure and support services.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office with the ability to generate spreadsheets and reports, as well as creating simple drawings with Microsoft Visio or equivalent. Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings and manuals. Use of AutoCAD would be beneficial.
