Your Responsibilities as a Pharmacy Technician

As an integral member of the Pharmacy Services Inpatient Operations Team at University Health Network, this Pharmacy Technician role is a replacement position, ensuring continued support for essential pharmacy functions. You will be responsible for performing a variety of technical duties to support prescription preparation and dispensing, contributing directly to patient care.

  • Independently performing all technical aspects of prescription preparation including compounding and dispensing responsibilities, as per master worksheets.
  • Replenishing stock medication supplies for assigned areas.
  • Ensuring patient information is updated and maintained in the pharmacy computer system.
  • Completing all required reports and documentation.
  • Attending, participating and assisting in staff and patient training/educational functions.
  • Performing workload measurement support functions.
  • Performing cross-functional and/other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.

What You'll Need to Succeed

To be successful as a Pharmacy Technician at UHN, specific qualifications and abilities are required to ensure high standards of patient care and operational efficiency. The ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to new technologies is key.

  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent required.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g., Pyxis, unit dose machine).
  • Ability to work variable shifts.
  • Two years practical and related experience preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience with unit dose system and intravenous admixture service, preferred.
