Role Overview
As an Occupational Therapist within the Spinal Cord Rehab Program at University Health Network (UHN)'s Toronto Rehab, Lyndhurst Centre, you will play a crucial role in patient recovery. This permanent part-time position is integral to the Occupational Therapy service, Allied Health, and various clinical programs. Your expertise will be vital in preventing, alleviating, or minimizing dysfunction through comprehensive assessment, treatment, evaluation, and consultation. This enables clients to achieve their maximum level of functional independence and supports their successful integration into their home, community, and workplace environments.
Your Impact
In this role, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred occupational therapy services, making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals recovering from spinal cord injuries. Your contributions will include:
- Delivering evidence-informed and high quality patient-centered occupational therapy services tailored to each patient's goals and functional abilities to promote independence in activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming, dressing, feeding, and toileting.
- Providing assessment and equipment recommendations for home access and work environments to support safe and independent living.
- Providing education and health teaching to patients, their families, students, and interdisciplinary team members to promote recovery and manage preventable complications.
- Communicating and collaborating regularly with members of the inter-professional team regarding discharge planning and return to community living.
- Participating in daily huddles, weekly interdisciplinary rounds, meetings, committees, and quality initiatives within the Department and relevant Programs/Services.
- Supporting the development and implementation of best practice models of occupational therapy.
What You'll Bring
To excel in this occupational therapy position at UHN, you will need a strong educational background and practical experience, coupled with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Key requirements include:
- Completion of a Master’s Degree in Science (Occupational Therapy) or recognized equivalent based on Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- 2-5 years experience in a hospital setting.
- Experience with psychosocial and physical health and related assessment and intervention skills addressing occupational performance.
- Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates strong and effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication skills.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
Certain qualifications and experiences are preferred to enhance your contribution to the team, including membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and/or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT). Experience with spinal cord injury, as well as seating and positioning, is highly valued. MOCA certification and being an ADP authorizer for seating and mobility devices are also preferred assets for this role.
