About the Opportunity

This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and results-oriented engineering leader to make a significant impact at NBM Railways. Based in Saint John, New Brunswick, this role reports directly to the Director of Engineering. You will guide and grow a talented team, driving project success and furthering your leadership journey in a supportive and growth-oriented environment within the Transportation & Logistics Division of J.D. Irving, Limited. NBM Railways is comprised of three short line railroads, providing direct rail connections between Atlantic Canada and the northeastern United States, with a reputation for excellence, safety, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

As the Manager, Project Engineering, you will lead and manage a team of engineers, providing essential guidance, support, and mentorship. You will oversee the Project Engineering team to ensure all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Developing and implementing project management processes and best practices will be a key part of your role. You will also manage the Profit and Loss (P&L) for engineering projects, ensuring financial targets are consistently met. Coordination with various stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams, is crucial for project success. Monitoring project progress, identifying potential risks, and implementing effective mitigation strategies are also expected. You will prepare and present comprehensive project reports and updates to senior management. Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols is paramount. This position requires travel to NBM project sites and customer sites within New Brunswick and New England.

What You'll Need

Candidates for this role require a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. You must possess excellent leadership and team management skills, along with proven experience leading a team in the civil engineering or construction industry. A strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies is essential. Experience with Profit and Loss (P&L) management is also required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are vital for success in this position. Previous commercial experience is considered a valuable asset. The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously is also necessary.
