Responsibilities

As a Facility Assistant at the University of Alberta, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of events hosted across various campus locations. Reporting to the Conference Services Supervisor, your primary focus will be on the precise setup and maintenance of various room types, supporting the conference and meeting services offered by the university.

  • Setting up conference and meeting rooms at Lister Conference Centre, Peter Lougheed Hall, University Commons, and various classrooms.
  • Performing meeting room set-up and tear down, ensuring all requests, including seating plans and AV requirements, are met.
  • Providing minor maintenance, such as monitoring and making minor adjustments to furniture, and ensuring AV equipment is working.
  • Reporting maintenance issues that require further repair.
  • Performing janitorial tasks, including mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, dusting rooms, spot cleaning carpets, cleaning tables/furniture, and removing garbage and recycling, as required between events.

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this Facility Assistant role at the University of Alberta will bring a combination of practical skills and a service-oriented approach. This position requires someone who is adaptable and capable of managing diverse tasks within a dynamic university environment, particularly in support of conference services.

  • High School Diploma.
  • Related experience in the hospitality and service industry is preferred.
  • Excellent ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with all styles of meeting room setups.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills; exemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, including students, staff, and guests.
  • Familiarity with AV equipment, including sound systems, microphones, and data projectors.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
