Day-to-day

As an essential member of the Environmental Services team, the Helper 1 is primarily responsible for maintaining pristine conditions across our hospital. Your daily tasks are crucial for infection control and creating a welcoming atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff. The specific duties required for this role include:

• Cleaning and disinfecting public and clinical areas using methods approved by the Housekeeping and Infection Control departments.
• Washing floors, ceilings, and walls.
• Cleaning inside of windows.
• Performing waste and linen disposal.
• Undertaking other related duties as required to support a safe and hygienic environment.

Skills and experience

• A High School Diploma is required.
• Recent practical and related experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
• Must be able to work effectively in a team setting.
• Possess English language verbal communication skills and literacy skills sufficient to understand verbal and written instructions and to read product labels and procedure manuals.
• Ability to prioritize workload and function independently.
• Ability to operate moderate to light equipment is required.
• A satisfactory employment and attendance record.

Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands of the job, which include continuous standing and walking, forward bending, pushing/pulling carts, and reaching. Some overhead reaching, squatting, climbing, and heavy lifting of up to 30 lbs may also be required.
