Position Summary
Halton Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Food Services Supervisor to join the Clinical Nutrition and Food Services Management Team in Oakville. This vital role works closely with the Director and Manager to ensure the seamless operation of the department, contributing to high-quality patient care within a dynamic healthcare environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing direct supervision to all staff involved in Patient Food Services, fostering a superior customer service culture across all food services operations.
As a member of the Halton Healthcare team, you will oversee the daily operations of the Food Services Department. This includes managing meal service to patients, maintaining sanitation standards, supervising food production, ensuring efficient warewashing, and upholding security protocols. This position is crucial for maintaining the high standards expected in a healthcare setting, ensuring that all food services contribute positively to patient satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Key Duties
The Food Services Supervisor will be responsible for a comprehensive range of duties, ensuring compliance with both internal policies and external regulations. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all work practices adhere to Hospital, Departmental, and legislated standards, including HACCP, Public Health, Canadian Food Inspection Agency Act, and Workplace Safety and OH&S Act.
- Managing staff labour, which encompasses providing technical and non-technical training, coaching, and development.
- Overseeing recruitment, orientation, performance and attendance management, and disciplinary actions for staff.
- Conducting quality audits, facilitating job shadowing, and performing workload assessments.
- Collaborating closely with nursing units, clinical areas, and other non-clinical departments to ensure integrated service delivery.
Requirements

- Successful completion of a Food Service Supervisor diploma is required.

- Must be willing to complete Advanced Food Safety Certification.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Food Services Supervisor is required.
- Previous experience working as a Food Services Supervisor in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Working knowledge of WHMIS and HACCP is required.
- Proven ability to manage supply and labour budgets, including labour relations and compliance within local and central collective agreements of unionized staff.
- Experience monitoring performance and hospital policies within a healthcare environment.
- An action-oriented approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Experience in large-scale food production and service is required.
- Excellent time management skills and proven initiative.
- Must be self-directed with excellent organizational skills.
- Proven ability to effectively manage operations and staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
- Previous working knowledge of Food Service computer systems is preferred.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
