About the Role
Join the Clinical Nutrition and Food Services Management Team at Halton Healthcare in Halton Hills as a Supervisor, Food Services. This vital administration role ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the department, working closely with the Director and Manager. You will play a key part in fostering a superior customer service culture within Food Services, directly impacting patient satisfaction and operational excellence in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As a Food Services Supervisor, you will provide direct supervision to all staff within Patient Food Services. Your daily responsibilities will encompass overseeing the entire Food Services Department, ensuring high standards across all areas. This includes:
- Managing meal service to patients
- Supervising sanitation practices
- Overseeing food production
- Directing warewashing operations
- Ensuring departmental security
You will be responsible for ensuring that all work practices adhere strictly to Hospital, Departmental, and legislated standards, including HACCP, Public Health guidelines, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Act, and the Workplace Safety and OH&S Act. A significant part of this role involves labour management for staff, providing essential technical and non-technical training, coaching, and development. You will also be involved in recruitment, orientation, performance and attendance management, discipline, quality audits, job shadowing, and workload assessment. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with nursing units, clinical areas, and other non-clinical departments to ensure integrated and effective service delivery.
Requirements
To excel in this Food Services management role at Halton Healthcare, candidates must possess a combination of education, experience, and skills. The following qualifications are required or preferred:
- Successful completion of a Food Service Supervisor diploma is required.
- Active membership in the Canadian Society for Nutrition Management is required.
- Must be willing to complete Advanced Food Safety Certification.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Food Services Supervisor is required.
- Previous experience working as a Food Services Supervisor in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Working knowledge of WHMIS and HACCP is required.
- Proven ability to manage supply and labour budgets, including labour relations and compliance within local and central collective agreements of unionized staff.
- Experience in monitoring performance and hospital policies within a healthcare environment.
- Action-oriented approach to problem solving and trouble shooting.
- Experience in large scale food production and service is required.
- Excellent time management skills and proven initiative.
- Must be self-directed with excellent organizational skills.
- Proven ability to effectively manage operations and staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
- Previous working knowledge of Food Service computer systems is preferred.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record is required.
