The Saskatchewan Health Authority is seeking a dedicated Communicable Disease Control Public Health Nurse to join their team in Meadow Lake, SK. This vital role is central to safeguarding public health across Saskatchewan by actively coordinating prevention, planning, and implementation of communicable disease control (CDC) services. Working under the direction of a designated Manager and as a delegate of local Medical Health Officers, the successful candidate will be accountable for a broad range of public health activities.
These responsibilities are crucial for controlling and preventing the spread of various communicable diseases within the community, aligning with The Public Health Officers Regulations, The Public Health Act, 1994, and The Disease Control Regulations. The nurse will conduct thorough investigations and provide necessary follow-up for both reportable and non-reportable communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, collaborating extensively with numerous internal and external health care professionals and agencies. This position requires a proactive approach to public health, ensuring the well-being of Saskatchewan residents through vigilant disease surveillance and response. Travel is also required for this role.
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate a strong foundation in public health nursing and a commitment to disease prevention. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is required, along with specific course credits in community health and public health nursing. Applicants must also possess a minimum of two years of recent, relevant experience in public health nursing, providing them with practical knowledge of communicable disease control practices and procedures.
Registration or eligibility with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) is essential, as is a valid Class 5 driver's license, given that travel is required. Desired competencies include advanced skills in program planning and evaluation, strong decision-making abilities, and proven leadership skills. Highly developed written and oral communication skills are paramount for effective collaboration and reporting. Knowledge in population health promotion approaches, community development, and the ability to utilize epidemiological models to explain disease patterns are also key for addressing public health challenges. Education in infectious diseases and sexually transmitted diseases is considered a valuable asset.
