Role Overview
As an Associate Student Recruiter Advisor at UBC, you will play a pivotal role in executing strategic recruitment programs and providing essential advising services. This position focuses on engaging secondary and post-secondary students, parents, educational advocates, and counsellors across Canada, encouraging qualified prospective students to seek admission to UBC. A key aspect of this role involves advising students on UBC admission criteria and specific program requirements for undergraduate programs on both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.
This role is integral to advancing Indigenous peoples’ human rights and UBC’s commitment to reconciliation, as well as fostering access, success, and representation for historically underserved, marginalized, or excluded populations. The Associate Student Recruiter Advisor reports to the Associate Director, Student Recruitment & Advising, working closely with other Student Recruiter-Advisors and staff across UBC Enrolment Services and various on-campus units to support the recruitment, advising, admission, and successful transition of students to UBC.
What You'll Do
The Associate Student Recruiter Advisor will engage in a variety of activities to support student recruitment and advising efforts at UBC, ensuring an inclusive and strategic approach.
- Represent UBC with an accurate, inclusive, and strategic approach to prospective high school students, parents, and counsellors through visits to secondary schools and colleges.
- Deliver UBC recruitment presentations in small and large group settings, utilizing multimedia materials and other collateral.
- Build strong relationships and trust with institutions, community organizations, and individuals through effective and inclusive communication with students, parents, educational advocates, and counsellors in presentation settings, one-on-one advising, telephone inquiries, email correspondence, social media, and online sessions.
- Share UBC’s commitment to inclusive excellence and the resources available to empower students to achieve their educational goals.
- Advise prospective students by providing information on all aspects of academic program options, application, admission, registration, housing, awards and financial assistance, extracurricular activities, campus resources, and orientation to UBC.
- Apply knowledge and understanding of complex requirements and policies in making appropriate responses and offering advice based on individual assessment of each situation.
- Represent UBC’s welcoming community and positive engagement with all students, particularly those from systemically marginalized communities.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of programs with the guidance and support of the Associate Director and Student Recruiter-Advisors.
- Provide support for students throughout the admission, registration, and transition process.
- Develop, plan, and execute strategic special events, on and off campus, involving event design, promotion, facility logistics, liaising with external partners, coordinating staff/faculty involvement, training and supervising student assistants, and post-event evaluation.
- Initiate and undertake prospective student follow-up on both an individual and group basis.
- Assist in the development and delivery of strategic communication planning for prospective students with a focus on inclusive messaging.
- Undertake additional student recruitment and advising activities as required.

- Program management experience that emphasizes strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Demonstrate cross-cultural competency and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Good organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work inclusively and respectfully with all levels of the external and internal UBC community.
- Must hold a valid BC driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
- Must be willing to travel extensively (primarily within Canada).
- Open to working evenings and weekends.
