This Software Engineer II role offers a chance to shape the future of education technology, working on impactful projects with a fun and rewarding team culture.
As a Software Engineer II, you will develop full-stack code and be a key player across all areas of the engineering lifecycle. This includes eliciting requirements from customers, defining features in partnership with UX designers and Product Owners, building the experience by writing the code, testing it and shipping it with quality and on time. You will learn about new technologies and challenges in the Education Tech sector, enhancing your collaboration and communication experience within Microsoft.
Responsibilities
- Innovate and experiment with the use of AI tools and workflows and other frontier technologies to make the job of engineer easier and more productive.
- Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
- Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
- Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
- Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
- Acts (at times i.e. in rotation) as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
- Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
- Leverages the work of others, including the work of peers, of internal Microsoft solutions, and of open-source and industry solutions, to avoid reinventing the wheel.
- Designs cloud solutions using microservice architecture and other techniques. Packages up solutions to make them easy and attractive for other teams to follow.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional development and design experience in object oriented languages, with responsibility ownership across entire features.
- Hands-on software development and coding are core responsibilities of this role.
- Experience with cloud compute and cloud storage, preferably Azure.
- 2+ years of professional experience building backend HTTP web services with REST, GraphQL, or OData, and frontend experiences with JavaScript, TypeScript and a modern framework like React.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Depth of knowledge and language experience in .NET C#.
- Experience in service delivery technologies (ASP.NET WebAPI+MVC Razor, WCF) and industry standards (REST, OData, GraphQL, JSON).
- Depth of knowledge and language experience in JS/TS.
- Experience in experience delivery technologies (build tools, css, state management, routing, telemetry, responsive design, accessibility).
- Solid scalable database background (SQL, Azure Table, DocumentDB, etc.).
- Good understanding of identity systems (OAuth2, etc.).
