Role Overview

The University of Toronto's Department of Classics, located in vibrant downtown Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position as an Associate Professor in Ancient Greek Literature. This is a unique opportunity for a scholar to join one of North America's largest and most diverse Classics departments, renowned for its commitment to a broad and pluralistic understanding of Greco-Roman antiquity and its recognized excellence across the field's chronological and methodological scope. • Earned a PhD degree in Classics or a related area.
• Clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.
• Ability to outline a program of rigorous and innovative research at the highest international level, backed by a track record commensurate with career stage.
• Clear evidence of a capacity to teach both graduate and undergraduate students at all levels, including translation-based courses in ancient Greek literature and language courses in ancient Greek.
• Expertise in at least one other ancient language.
• Ability to complement and add value to existing Departmental strengths, as addressed in the cover letter.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, demonstrated through application materials.
• Commitment to improving equity, diversity, and inclusion within the subject.

Evidence of excellence in research may be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, conference presentations, grants and awards commensurate with career stage, a research statement showing ambition and innovation, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong recommendations by referees of high standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and a comprehensive teaching dossier submitted as part of the application.
