This is a unique opportunity to join the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto as a full-time, three-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in the teaching stream. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027. Key duties

The successful candidate will be assigned a comprehensive teaching and service load within the Department of Chemistry. Key responsibilities include:

• Teaching and coordinating analytical chemistry courses at the undergraduate levels.
• Delivering both lecture and laboratory components of these courses as required.
• Conducting ongoing course and curriculum development for assigned courses.
• Engaging in the renewal of lecture and laboratory materials to ensure up-to-date and impactful pedagogical approaches.

Qualifications

The University of Toronto seeks candidates who possess a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching analytical chemistry and a strong academic background. Applicants must meet the following essential qualifications:

• Earned a PhD degree in Chemistry or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter.
• Demonstrated teaching excellence and experience in a degree-granting program at the undergraduate level.
• Demonstrated commitment to novel and impactful pedagogical methods.
• Demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
• Evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.

Teaching experience may include:

• Lecture preparation and delivery.
• Curriculum development activities.
• Development of online material/lectures.

Experience in coordinating laboratories and supervising teaching assistants at the university level would be considered a valuable asset. Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through various accomplishments, including grants, awards, presentations at significant conferences, and a comprehensive teaching dossier. The teaching dossier should include a strong teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities.

Perks and benefits

This full-time teaching stream position offers a competitive salary package. The hiring salary range is $130,000 to $160,000 CAD per annum, depending on the candidate's experience. Negotiations beyond this stated salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates who bring outstanding expertise and a demonstrated commitment to the university's academic mission.
