The City of Mississauga is seeking an Aquatic Recreation Programmer to join its dedicated team. Who we're looking for
We are seeking a highly organised and customer-focused individual with a strong background in aquatic recreation. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment with changing priorities. Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete work accurately and on time are essential for this role.
- Post-secondary Degree or diploma in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field, combined with three years of recreation experience in an aquatic setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three years of experience providing functional guidance to part-time staff and volunteers when on duty and as required by programs.
- Proficiency in computer software applications including Word, Excel, ActiveNet Software (for program registration, maintenance, and report printing), and SAP Software.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships, provide excellent customer service, and work in a team environment with changing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete work in an accurate and timely manner.
- Must hold and maintain, at the employee’s expense, valid and current certifications in National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Society Instructor, Aquatic Supervisory or Aquatic Management Training, and Intermediate First Aid or Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED from one of the following WSIB-recognized providers: Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, or Canadian Ski Patrol.
- Must be certified in HIGH FIVE®- Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) and HIGH FIVE®- Quest 2.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.
- NL Instructor, and Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor, Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, Bronze Cross Examiner and Lifesaving Society Advanced Instructor certifications are definite assets.
- Professional accreditation and/or training in aquatic fitness and aquatic post rehabilitation, older adult programming or related services, development and delivery of general recreation programming is preferred.
Day-to-day
As an Aquatic Recreation Programmer, you will be integral to the daily operations and long-term planning of our aquatic programs. Your responsibilities will span program development, staff support, customer service, and administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth and safe delivery of all recreation offerings in Mississauga.
- Working with a team, plan, develop, and implement various programs, including “learn to” programs, recreation swim programs, therapeutic programs, older adult, and special events.
- Provide customer service, resolve issues, and communicate new programs/changes/cancellations effectively.
- Assist with functional guidance of part-time staff, including evaluations, scheduling, hiring/contracting, and training.
- Manage volunteer, co-op, and intern recruitment, training, and assist with functional guidance.
- Produce in-house marketing materials using various software programs.
- Provide administrative support including, but not limited to, part-time payroll, program outline review, class lists, program hand-outs, assembling staff packages, file management, and program entry in ActiveNet Recreation Management Software.
- Assist by liaising with facility staff to ensure spaces are prepared, safe, and operational.
- Assist with regular program visits, High Five® Quest 2 program evaluations, program planning, and support material development.
- Comply with relevant City policies.
- Provide ad hoc assistance on projects/initiatives within the unit/team.
- Responsible for input into budget preparation, monitoring, forecasting, and maintenance.
- Work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends; travel required between facilities.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
