Key Responsibilities and Expertise
In this dynamic role, Vehicle & Equipment Technicians 2 are responsible for a wide spectrum of duties critical to maintaining the City's extensive fleet. This includes performing scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency services, alongside seasonal overhauls and vehicle commissioning/decommissioning. Technicians will conduct thorough diagnostic inspections and execute general mechanical overhaul and repair work on various vehicle systems and components, including steering, suspension, electrical, ignition, fuel, and hydraulic systems. The scope of maintenance extends to a diverse range of fleet vehicles, powered by gas, diesel, propane, or natural gas, as well as heavy equipment such as tractors, graders, loaders, dozers, cranes, mowers, garbage trucks, and ice resurfacing equipment. A strong understanding of standard practices, safety issues, and the ability to use manual and electronic diagnostic equipment are paramount for success in this role within Fleet Maintenance & Technical Services.
Qualifications, Certifications, and Benefits
To qualify for this position, applicants must have successfully completed a Truck and Coach Technician 310T apprenticeship program and hold a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Truck and Coach Technician 310T. A minimum of two years of experience in a municipal fleet or a similar truck and coach environment is required. Additional certifications such as a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Motorcycle Technician 310G, TSSA Regulated Fuels Safety certificate, and a current Ontario Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certificate card may be required for specific positions.
