About Metrolinx & the Role
Metrolinx is dedicated to connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe region of Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, Metrolinx operates essential transit services including GO Transit, UP Express, and the PRESTO fare payment system. The organisation is also actively expanding rapid transit infrastructure with projects like GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and significant additions to Toronto’s subway system, aiming to enhance mobility for residents.
As a Station Ambassador, you will serve as a key brand representative for Metrolinx, ensuring an excellent customer experience. This dynamic role involves providing comprehensive information and assistance to customers regarding bus and train services, wayfinding, company policies, fare products, equipment usage, and various purchase methods. Your primary goal will be to foster a safe, positive, and efficient environment for all transit users.
Key Responsibilities
As a Station Ambassador, you will uphold the Metrolinx brand by consistently delivering excellent customer service, aligned with our customer and safety charters. A core part of your duties will involve selling and educating customers on various fare media and products, accurately depositing daily revenues. You will also be responsible for meticulous record-keeping, including cash handling, equipment malfunctions, incident reports, electronic logs, and the appropriate management of lost and found articles.
You are expected to be proactive in assisting customers, offering trip planning and wayfinding information, and providing in-person support as required. This includes assisting customers with special needs, such as wheelchair assistance, and administering First Aid when necessary. Keeping the public informed is crucial, achieved through station announcements, updating notice boards, and ensuring service bulletins and marketing materials are current.
Additionally, you will contribute to revenue protection activities, which may involve inspecting customer tickets or PRESTO cards before boarding and notifying Transit Safety as needed. Maintaining the safety and cleanliness of stations, platforms, and grounds is also a key responsibility. This includes conducting regular safety and quality checks, removing snow and ice from walkways, and performing basic janitorial services and maintenance across the station premises.
What You'll Bring
Candidates should possess a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A minimum of six months of experience in customer service, involving direct interaction with the public, is essential for this role. You must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification and be prepared to perform First Aid duties as required, along with successfully completing all mandated safety, environmental, and corporate training.
A valid G Licence is a prerequisite, as is the ability to travel to various work locations within the Greater Golden Horseshoe region in a timely manner, including outside regular transit hours or during any shift, to meet operational needs. This requires personal transportation. Strong oral and written communication skills are vital for courteous public interaction, alongside the ability to accurately read and comprehend fare tables, manuals, and schedules. Proficiency in computer skills and a quick aptitude for learning new technology are also expected. Bilingualism is considered a valuable asset.
Compensation & Work Environment
The starting hourly rate for this position is $29.30, which is non-negotiable. During the training period, the hourly rate will be $17.60, also non-negotiable. Please note that exact work locations, days of work, shift hours, and off days will vary based on operational needs.
The work environment requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods, both inside and outside stations, across all seasons. You should be comfortable working in large crowds and prepared to assist customers with accessibility needs, including pushing wheelchairs when requested. This role also involves working in an environment where standard industrial cleaning products are used.
