Key Responsibilities and Claim Management
The Senior Specialist will provide quality customer service, ensuring timely coverage analysis and clear communication with insured parties based on policy application to the facts of each case. This includes directly investigating each General Liability claim through prompt and strategically appropriate contact with policyholders, claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, and technical experts to determine liability, damages, and contribution potential. The role requires active engagement in identifying, selecting, and directing internal or external resources for specific activities needed to effectively evaluate claims. Maintaining meticulous claim files and documenting all activities in accordance with established procedures is paramount, utilizing diary management systems to ensure all claims are handled efficiently and within required time intervals. The specialist will establish and maintain proper indemnity and expense reserves, recommend appropriate cases for roundtable discussions, and actively participate in these discussions to leverage technical expertise for improved payouts on indemnity and expense. This position also involves the management of litigated claims, developing comprehensive litigation plans with counsel, including discovery and legal expenses, to assure effective resolution and customer satisfaction. The ability to apply litigation management through counsel selection, evaluation, and direction of claim and litigation strategy is essential.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this Senior Specialist role, candidates must bring a university degree in any discipline or a two-year college diploma from a provincially recognized and funded community college, or a fully completed CIP designation. A minimum of 8 to 10 years of general claims handling experience is required, with the ideal candidate possessing extensive experience across a range of complex claim types. This includes, but is not limited to, bodily injury/property damage claims exceeding $150,000, environmental claims, abuse claims, construction claims, Coverage B, class actions, marine claims, and national accounts with large SIR/Deductibles and additional insured determinations.
