Your impact
The Risk Data Management Office at CIBC plays a pivotal role in enabling strong risk management through trusted data, modern architecture, and effective governance. As Senior Director, Risk Data Strategy, you'll lead the vision, design, and evolution of CIBC's risk data ecosystem. Your leadership will ensure high-quality, well-governed data is available to support critical decision-making, regulatory compliance, and strategic risk management across the bank. You'll develop and execute the short-, medium-, and long-term strategy for risk data architecture, aligning risk management priorities with enterprise data and technology capabilities. This leadership position drives modernisation across data architecture, governance, integration, reporting, automation, and advanced analytics, while strengthening regulatory readiness and enterprise alignment. You'll collaborate closely with senior leaders across Risk Management, Technology, Finance, Compliance, and Operations to deliver scalable, forward-looking solutions, and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and execute Risk's data architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with CIBC's business priorities, enterprise data strategy, and risk management framework.
- Oversee initiatives that support strong risk data aggregation, governance, and reporting practices in alignment with Basel Committee on Banking Supervision 239 (BCBS 239) principles and regulatory expectations.
- Lead the assessment and evolution of risk data architecture, including data modelling, data warehousing, pipelines, cloud-based solutions, and system integration to improve scalability, efficiency, and data quality.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate manual processes and evaluate the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics to enhance risk data capabilities and decision-making.
- Provide senior oversight for major risk data programs, establish priorities and governance, manage delivery risks, and support successful execution across multiple business and technology teams.
- Collaborate with leaders across Risk, Finance, Compliance, Operations, Technology, Internal Audit, and enterprise data functions to align priorities, support governance, and advance strategic initiatives.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this Senior Director role, you'll bring a robust background as an experienced people leader with deep expertise in risk data architecture. Your strategic and technical depth, combined with a strong understanding of the regulatory landscape, will be crucial for driving innovation and delivering complex initiatives within a dynamic financial institution.
- A strong track record of leading and developing high-performing, multi-functional teams, creating clarity, building capability, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Expert knowledge of designing scalable, resilient, and well-governed data environments within a complex financial institution, understanding how strong architecture supports risk management, regulatory compliance, and better business decisions.
- Advanced experience in data modelling, data warehousing, integration, cloud-based data platforms, and modern data architecture practices, with the ability to assess emerging tools and technologies for meaningful value.
- Strong knowledge of BCBS 239, Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) requirements, and broader expectations related to risk data aggregation, governance, and reporting, translating these into practical, enterprise-aligned roadmaps.
- Influential communication and strategic thinking skills, capable of conveying complex technical and strategic concepts clearly to a wide range of audiences, including senior executives, governance committees, and Board-level stakeholders, to build strong partnerships and advance priorities.
- A commitment to CIBC's values: trust, teamwork, and accountability, bringing your real self to work.
