About the Role
Intertek is searching for a Mechanical Inspector to join their Technical Inspection Services team in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a casual part-time opportunity within Inspection Services. The Mechanical Inspector performs visual inspection of materials and fabricated equipment at vendor shops or on-site fabrication or testing facilities. The role requires being well-versed in quality control inspections and tests, including nondestructive testing techniques, mechanical testing, dimensional inspection, pressure testing, and welding inspections. This position involves at least 25% travel. All inspectors are utilised on an ad hoc basis, with duties based on client needs, availability, location, taxonomy approvals, and specific client requests.

Key Responsibilities
Perform inspections or audits and review testing to ensure conformance with client specifications, industry standards, and approved procedures, then report results. Review material test reports for conformance with applicable codes and standards. Follow up on dispositions and corrective actions related to non-conformances. Document inspection activities using electronic formats.
Evaluate and agree upon project quality procedures, standards, and specifications, ensuring adherence by all parties including engineering, procurement, and manufacturing. Review Inspection and Testing Plans to ensure a standardised minimum level of surveillance in accordance with contractual requirements, identifying critical inspections and tests to be witnessed by the Owner. Carry out inspection visits as per ITPs, either personally or through a third-party resource.
Qualifications & Experience
Candidates should possess a High School Diploma or GED, Trade School, On-The-Job Training, or a University Diploma. A minimum of five years of third-party vendor inspection, expediting, or auditing experience is required. Essential experience includes quality control inspections and tests, such as nondestructive testing techniques, mechanical testing, dimensional inspection, pressure testing, and coating inspections. Technical training in areas like quality, NDT, blueprint reading, industry standards, auditing, expediting, materials, welding, coatings, electrical components, instrumentation, pressure testing, well control, equipment operation, and assembly is necessary. Applicants must have experience with Mechanical/Pressure Vessels and lifting equipment, along with basic knowledge of material properties.
A clear understanding of basic procurement and fabrication processes, coupled with knowledge of relevant codes and specifications for the oil and gas industry, is also required. Proficiency in MS Office programs and Outlook is expected. A valid driver’s licence and a reliable driving record are essential. Ability to travel frequently throughout the continental US is also required.
Preferred qualifications include valid industry certifications such as AWS CWI, CWB Level 2 or 3, API 510, 570, or ASNT or CGSB NDT Level II, III.
