Logistics Technician - Microsoft Canada, Greater Toronto

The opportunity

As a Microsoft Logistics Technician, you will play a crucial role in the efficient operation of Microsoft's cloud services infrastructure. This position involves prioritizing and assigning ticketed work to team members, providing essential guidance on inbound and outbound logistics tasks, and ensuring that all inventory balances are accurate. What you'll bring

This role involves physical demands that require the ability to occasionally climb ladders, frequently climb stairs and/or ramps, engage in prolonged standing, occasionally lift up to 50 lbs (22.5 kg), and occasionally push or pull up to 50-75 lbs (22.5-34 kg), which may be assisted or unassisted with an assistive device. Regular and frequent fine hand manipulation is also required. You may also be asked to go on business travel to support other metros periodically, up to 25% of the time, and work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

To ensure the security and integrity of our operations, this role requires the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. These include passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter, and obtaining and maintaining a Reliability Status security screening with the Government of Canada.

• High School Diploma AND 6 months experience or an internship in inventory management, retail, warehouse management, or a related field OR equivalent experience.

• 1+ year(s) experience in warehouse/supply chain in an information technology (IT) environment, IT, and/or logistics, operating heavy-load movement equipment (e.g., forklift, pallet jacks, chassis lifts) for a large corporation OR equivalent experience.

Your impact

As a Logistics Technician, your responsibilities will directly contribute to the seamless operation and security of Microsoft's extensive cloud infrastructure. Your daily impact will span various critical areas, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to strict data and security protocols.

• Maintains a strong focus to understand the impact of their work when completing tickets and assigned Inventory and Asset Management (IAM) tasks.
• Ensures IAM tasks are completed accurately as requested, as well as meet company and industry standards and policies.
• Becomes familiar with guidelines set by the Microsoft contractual agreements with suppliers and maintains a strong customer focus.
• Recognizes potential stakeholder impact of external and internal events and issues, communicates potential impact, and plans for impact accordingly.
• Performs destruction of data bearing devices (DBD) following all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Microsoft policies as necessary.
• Ensures DBD serial number matches with database.
• Supports decommissioning servers, maintaining compliance and meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Performs weekly vehicle inspections as part of fleet management.
• Performs data entry to document inbound and outbound packages.
• Executes incoming/outgoing deliveries as instructed by management (e.g. purchase order [PO] receiving, Rack Movement Supervisor [RMS] activities).
• Ensures accurate documentation of incoming and outgoing deliveries as well as records.
• Applies appropriate customs documentations and standards for outbound packages.
• Develops working knowledge of stock control and inventory management practices and procedures.
• Performs cycle audits and data corrections to ensure all inventory controls are met and helps report and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
• Ensures detailed physical inventory tracking and staging, identifying opportunities to improve inventory and address space constraints.
• Performs material movement, including shipping/receiving and inventory management per standard process.
• Follows existing procedures to run processes and ensures execution with consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of delivery.
• Completes required security and data management training while complying with security and data management procedures/policies.
• Participates in training for relevant site-specific procedures and tools (e.g., forklift, pallet jacks, technician on-hand processes, inventory maintenance software, RMA portals, Rack Movement).
• Notifies management about ordering stock shortages.
• Escalates any issues to management.
• Complies with security and data management policies.
• Escalates any security or safety incidents.
• Coordinates with security escorts for third-party vendors.
• Engages in Task Hazard Analysis (THA) consistently for every task to be performed and ensures sign off from appropriate person for any related risks.
• Conducts rack movement activities, supporting training on devices and tools and upholding safety standards.
• Follows established protocols on dealing with unsafe materials out of containment, leveraging safety alert system, escalating to management, and properly disposing of them.
• Performs assigned tasks and escalates issues during high-volume work activity or escalation-based situations.
• Seeks guidance from management before proceeding with the next step of a process.
• Begins monitoring inbound and outbound schedules, escalating deviations from scheduling, with guidance.
• Engages supplier to initiate warranty claim when automation is not available and processes the orders.
• Processes failed vendor hardware devices using online/other tools, including information processing, packaging, shipment, and receipt of return for Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and non-RMA devices.
• Performs manual return processes for non-RMA failed parts.
• Begins to perform manual ordering processes of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts.
• Follows all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) related to RMA and non-RMA warranty process.

Benefits

The typical base pay range for this Logistics Technician role across Canada is CAD $49,100 to CAD $70,300 per year. Benefits and perks may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Microsoft and the country where you work.
