The specialist will expand a business banking portfolio, meeting targets for asset, deposit, and revenue growth. Key responsibilities include developing deep customer knowledge and providing expert financial advice. Success requires post-secondary education in finance or business, proven expertise in the healthcare segment, and strong knowledge of small business products and risk management.
About the Role at Scotiabank
As a Healthcare & Professional Specialist with Scotiabank, you will be an integral part of a national team dedicated to leveraging specialized knowledge for the profitable growth of new high-value customers, specifically within the healthcare and professional sectors across Ontario. Your primary responsibility will involve managing and expanding a robust business banking portfolio. This includes actively acquiring new healthcare and professional customer relationships and diligently working to retain and expand existing ones. You will achieve this through strategic involvement in industry events, cultivating strong relationships with local professionals and key Centers of Influence (COIs), and collaborating effectively with internal Retail and other Scotiabank Partners, including professional associations with a local market footprint.
A crucial aspect of this professional role involves developing and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of your assigned healthcare and professional customers. This includes understanding the nature and progress of their business, their financial position, and the specific terms and conditions of the financial services they utilize. You will provide specialized healthcare and professional customers expertise and astute business and finance advice, significantly increasing the business owner's ability to succeed in their ventures. Identifying new prospects will be achieved through multiple channels, including seeking referrals from existing customers, collaborating with Scotiabank partners and COIs, developing a strong network of community business contacts, and participating in marketing and educational seminars. Proactive collaboration with Branch Managers and Wealth Management Consultants is essential to ensure a Total Solutions approach, encompassing business and personal lending, payments, and investments, is consistently provided to each new and existing healthcare and professional customer.
Managing Risk and Ensuring Compliance
A significant component of this specialist position involves the diligent management of an assigned credit portfolio, ensuring it operates at an acceptable level of risk. This requires close collaboration and consultation with SPP Solutions Managers and ACE when processing deals. You will be responsible for completing detailed credit reviews in a timely and sufficient manner, authorizing, renewing, or declining customer requests within standard Bank policies and authorized limits, and forwarding others as per established processes. It is imperative to ensure all related documentation is properly maintained and thoroughly completed, and that accounts strictly adhere to the conditions of authorization. You will actively identify and resolve any deviations from these conditions, as well as address deteriorating or unsatisfactory trends affecting the loan portfolio, seizing opportunities to reduce potential risk and loss for the bank.
Furthermore, this role demands a deep understanding of the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture, ensuring these considerations are integrated into all day-to-day activities and decisions. You will actively pursue effective and efficient operations within your respective area, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of daily business controls. This commitment is vital for meeting obligations related to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, including responsibilities under various frameworks and guidelines. Strict compliance with regulatory activities and guidelines, including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, FCAD, Know Your Customer, CDIC, and Occupational Health & Safety, is mandatory. The successful candidate will possess expert knowledge of the features and benefits of Small Business products and services, selling approaches, and related internal software and technology platforms, alongside thorough knowledge of applicable risk management policies and processes, and legal and security documentation for small business products.
