About the Role
Scotiabank is looking for a dedicated Financial Planner to join the Scotia Financial Planning team, part of our Global Asset Management Division. This role, formerly known as an Investment Specialist, focuses on developing and deepening client relationships by providing high-quality financial advice and service within the mass affluent market. As an entrepreneurial professional, you will leverage your external networks and centres of influence to build new and long-term relationships, understanding that your clients are your greatest asset. Your priority will be to offer tailored investment and financial planning advice to help clients meet their unique goals. You will also enjoy the flexibility to meet clients outside of the office on a schedule that best suits both parties, all while operating within a supportive Scotiabank framework that benefits your clients and your overall business practice.
Following a comprehensive financial planning framework, you will be responsible for driving investment sales and new client acquisition, ensuring adherence to Global Sales Principles, compliance, and regulatory requirements. You will also actively establish business development opportunities with prospects and existing clients within your assigned market area.
Key Duties
As a Financial Planner, you will promote the development and sustainable growth of proprietary investment business in your assigned market area through several key activities:
- Executing on business development plans for prospects and existing clients within the mass affluent market, identifying additional opportunities, and facilitating the implementation of investment solutions or referrals to appropriate partners.
- Providing client-centric investment solutions through a robust financial planning framework, aligning with Global Sales Principles, and conducting outbound communications and proactive calling to prospects to remain top-of-mind for future business opportunities.
- Conducting complimentary needs analysis across various financial statements, including those from competitors, to provide comprehensive advice.
- Actively participating in local professional and community events and associations to develop and expand your network, identifying opportunities to deliver community information sessions and financial seminars to grow your prospect base.
- Building and maintaining a strong market profile in your assigned area, networking with investment industry specialists, and managing a small budget for independent marketing-based activities.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual with a passion for financial planning and client success. To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- 3 years of experience in financial planning and investment sales.
- Current accreditation and good standing for MFDA licensing requirements (Investments Funds in Canada or Canadian Securities Course).
- Successful completion of a Personal Financial Planning (PFP®) designation and/or a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation.
- Proven networking, client acquisition, and interpersonal skills, with experience building and maintaining Centres of Influence (COIs).
- Goal-oriented and entrepreneurial mindset, capable of working independently as a self-motivated professional with minimal supervision, while also contributing effectively as part of a larger team.
- Extensive knowledge of competitive offerings, market trends, economic conditions, and the regulatory environment.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle to meet clients and prospects within the designated district.
