Key Responsibilities and Qualifications for Golf Course Maintenance
As a Golf Turf Operations Labourer, your primary responsibilities will encompass a wide range of golf course maintenance tasks essential for preserving the beauty and playability of the courses. This includes, but is not limited to, mowing various areas of the course, meticulous course set-up, and diligent bunker maintenance. You will also be involved in critical turf management activities such as aerification, top dressing, irrigation system management, and drainage work. Horticulture tasks, including weeding and watering, along with general turf renovation and equipment maintenance, will also be part of your daily duties. The ability to understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions is crucial for success in this role.
Candidates should possess green patch CSA approved safety boots (6" - 8" to cover the ankle, suede or leather) and Emergency First Aid Certification. Previous experience in golf course maintenance, including turf, irrigation, pesticide/fertilizer application, and equipment maintenance (reels and engines), is considered a significant asset. Formal education in turf or golf course maintenance, horticulture, or other relevant fields would also be beneficial. Furthermore, possessing Landscape Exterminator and Industrial Vegetation Exterminator pesticide licences would be an advantage. Applicants must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision as part of a cohesive team. The ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively is also important. The normal hours of work are Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with alternating weekends from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., up to 44 hours per week, weather permitting. Flexibility to work varying shifts and overtime from March to November is required, along with the ability to work in diverse climate conditions. Physical demands include working outdoors in all seasons, exposure to various environmental factors, and the ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 55 lbs), climbing, and repetitive motion. Understanding of applicable Health and Safety regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act is also expected.
