The Opportunity

The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) is seeking a dedicated Sessional Lecturer to deliver MAT134H5S LEC103, Integral Calculus for Life Sciences. The course, MAT134H5S LEC103, focuses on essential calculus concepts tailored for life science applications. Students will explore antiderivatives, definite integrals, and the fundamental theorem of calculus, alongside various integration techniques. The curriculum also covers infinite sequences, series, convergence tests, power series, Taylor, and Maclaurin series, all with an emphasis on their relevance to life sciences. The estimated enrolment for this course is 140 students.

Responsibilities

As a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Toronto Mississauga, you will be entrusted with the comprehensive delivery of the MAT134H5S course. This involves not only classroom instruction but also significant engagement with students outside of scheduled class times to support their learning journey.

• Planning lectures, tutorials, assignments, and tests, including the development of marking schemes.
• Providing appropriate contact time to students outside of class, through office hours, emails, and other accessible communication channels.
• Invigilating the final examination for the course.
• Managing student grades and submitting final course grades accurately and on time.
• Addressing student petitions and, if necessary, setting and grading make-up exams.

Benefits

This sessional lecturer position at the University of Toronto Mississauga offers competitive compensation in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. The salary rates for a full course equivalent (FCE) are clearly defined, with specific rates for Sessional Lecturer I - $19,994.95; Sessional Lecturer 1 Long Term - $21,398.43; Sessional Lecturer II - $21,398.43; Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $21,907.92; Sessional Lecturer III - $21,907.92; and Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $22,457.80. Should the rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from those stated in this posting, the rates in the collective agreement shall prevail.

In addition to the salary, the role includes dedicated TA support, amounting to 45 hours per tutorial and per semester, to assist with course delivery and student engagement. This support helps ensure a manageable workload and enhances the overall learning experience for students.
