job description

About the Role

The Department of Medical Imaging at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in collaboration with the University of Toronto, is actively recruiting two full-time radiologists for its Emergency & Trauma Radiology Division. This is a unique opportunity to join a leading academic institution and Canada’s first and largest trauma program in Toronto.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is a fully affiliated University of Toronto hospital, boasting over 1300 beds, with nearly 700 dedicated to acute care, including 128 intensive care beds. The hospital features a dynamic and busy Emergency Department (ED), where the Emergency and Trauma Radiology Division (ETRD) plays a crucial role in patient services. Radiologists here encounter a broad spectrum of acute conditions, from poly-trauma and neurologic emergencies like stroke to cardiovascular, thoracic, and abdominal emergencies, as well as acute complications in oncology patients.

The Department of Medical Imaging at Sunnybrook is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology, including 1.5T and 3T MRI machines and four CT machines, all with DECT capability. All acute care imaging interpretations are performed 24/7 from a 6-station reading room embedded directly within the ED, adjacent to the CT scanners and trauma bay, ensuring immediate and integrated patient care.

What You'll Do

As an integral member of the Emergency & Trauma Radiology Division team, you will contribute significantly to both clinical practice and academic endeavours. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert interpretation of acute care imaging studies, including comprehensive overnight on-call coverage.
  • Playing a contributing role across all areas of subspecialty emergency and trauma imaging.
  • Reporting a mix of acute care and outpatient imaging studies from other divisions during daytime hours.
  • Serving as an integral part of the teaching faculty for Undergraduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education, Residency, and Fellowship Programs as a Clinician-Teacher.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in medical imaging and a commitment to academic excellence. Key qualifications include:

  • Eligibility for an academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto.
  • Holding a Fellowship in Diagnostic Imaging from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or an international equivalent.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • Sufficient experience to perform subspecialty work in Emergency and Trauma Imaging.
  • Essential completion of a year of dedicated fellowship training in Emergency and Trauma Radiology post-residency graduation.

Compensation and Academic Opportunity

Academic rank and salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Compensation operates on a fee-for-service model, with an estimated income range of $300,000 - $500,000 per annum for a full-time equivalent. There is an opportunity for increased salary commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
