The Opportunity
The Director, Critical Care Services Ontario, plays a pivotal leadership role in shaping and advancing Ontario's critical care system. This position is central to the effective delivery of Ontario Health programs related to Critical Care Services Ontario, driving initiatives that optimize access, quality, and outcomes for patients across the province. Reporting to the Vice President, this role provides strategic leadership across multiple provincial programs and serves as a key advisor in advancing the clinical and operational direction of Ontario's critical care system. You will identify emerging trends, anticipate future healthcare needs, and champion innovative solutions that strengthen the delivery of critical care services in a complex and evolving environment.
As a senior leader, the Director is accountable for operational excellence, system performance, and the development of strategic partnerships across Ontario Health, healthcare providers, government, and other key stakeholders. Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will be an accomplished healthcare leader with deep expertise in critical care, a strong track record of driving transformational change, and exceptional relationship-building, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Master of Health Administration (MHA), MBA in Healthcare, Master of Public Health (MPH), or similar
- Regulated Health Professional in good standing with their College preferred
- Expertise in Critical care
- 10 years of leadership experience, overseeing strategy, policy, projects, delivery, and information management
- Experience in leadership roles in complex health care organizations is an important prerequisite for this position
- Expert that understands extremely complex business needs and focuses on definitive solutions beyond the functional group and considers the Acute and Hospital Based Care (AHBC) strategy and mandate
- Broad understanding of changing priorities, trends, legislative requirements and/or other internal and external emerging issues and their potential impacts on goals, priorities, and activities within the function and across the organization
Key knowledge and skills required for this strategic leadership position include:
- Proven track record of successfully performing at a leadership level position within relevant areas of focus
- Evidence of experience in the successful development, implementation, and monitoring of operational, performance, accountability, and quality improvement initiatives at both strategic and operational levels
- Ability to provide senior level advice and guidance on complex operational management, expansion and issue intervention needed to meet current demands and the evolving organizational needs and healthcare system requirements
- Strong skills in community and stakeholder engagement and facilitation
- Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills and evidence of ability to promote and maintain interpersonal relationships and strategic partnerships
- Responsible for the effective development and execution of strategic corporate projects
- Lead contact and decision maker for specific organization-wide initiatives
- Sole advocate, decision maker for the designated operational area/program

- Develop and execute strategic priorities that support regional critical care service delivery and health system transformation
- Provide expert leadership on complex critical care initiatives, policy development, and system-wide improvement opportunities
- Partner with government and healthcare leaders to advance innovative, evidence-informed solutions
Operational Excellence
- Translate organizational strategy, performance data, and stakeholder needs into actionable plans and measurable outcomes
- Oversee program performance, operational effectiveness, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Leverage data, analytics, and system insights to identify challenges, inform decision-making, and drive sustainable results
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and resource allocation to support strategic objectives
Stakeholder & System Partnerships
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior healthcare leaders, hospitals, clinicians, government partners, and external organizations
- Provide strategic guidance to support regional and provincial critical care priorities
- Represent Ontario Health on provincial committees, advisory groups, and stakeholder forums
- Foster collaboration across the health system to advance shared priorities and improve patient outcomes
Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of specialized professionals
