Position Summary
At CIBC, we are building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world, and we need talented, passionate professionals dedicated to doing what’s right for our clients. We embrace your strengths and ambitions, empowering you to make a meaningful impact and valuing your contributions.
As Director, Corporate Function Compliance, you will join CIBC’s Compliance and Global Regulatory Affairs team within Risk Management. Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Function Compliance, you will provide strategic leadership and direction to a team of Compliance professionals. Your core responsibility will be to ensure that CIBC’s 1st and 2nd Line groups under your purview effectively manage regulatory compliance risk, aligning with the Bank’s risk appetite and regulator expectations. You will oversee the execution of Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) activities, coordinate regulatory landscape analysis, and ensure alignment with industry standards and the Bank’s Regulatory Compliance Management Policy. This role involves leading oversight activities for CFC officers specializing in either quantitative/financial regulatory areas (such as Enterprise Risk, Credit Risk, Model Quantification) or non-quantitative/functional areas (such as Legal, Marketing, Data Governance, Whistleblower, ESG). You will develop relationships across business units, provide compliance advisory services, and optimize processes to drive operational excellence. Furthermore, you will coach, mentor, and manage your team, fostering a positive work environment and championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values.
CIBC supports an optimal work environment, offering the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement where you will spend 2-3 days per week on-site, with other days being remote.
Your Impact
As a key leader at CIBC, you will drive critical initiatives to strengthen our regulatory compliance framework and mitigate risk. Your contributions will directly influence operational excellence and ensure adherence to evolving industry standards. Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead and manage a team of Compliance Officers, providing direction, coaching, and monitoring of activities to ensure alignment with CIBC’s Regulatory Compliance Management framework.
- Stay current on changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Analyze the impact of regulatory changes and adjust compliance strategies accordingly.
- Review complex legal and regulatory documentation, translate requirements into plain language, and perform risk assessments in accordance with established methodologies.
- Provide insights and best practices for optimizing regulatory compliance processes, focusing on operational excellence and mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Oversight Functions, Line of Business leaders, and other teams within Compliance and Global Regulatory Affairs to ensure effective oversight and mitigation of regulatory compliance risk.
- Foster a positive work environment, provide development opportunities, manage performance, and ensure compliance with policies and controls.
Qualifications
CIBC is seeking a seasoned professional with a proven track record in compliance and risk management. We need a leader who can navigate complex regulatory environments and inspire a team. To succeed in this role, you should bring:
- 10-15 years of progressive business experience in compliance, risk management, legal, audit, or governance within the financial services industry, mainly in either quantitative/financial (such as Enterprise Risk, Credit Risk, Model Quantification) or qualitative/functional areas (such as Legal, Marketing, Data Governance, Whistleblower, ESG).
- Extensive knowledge of regulatory compliance management, risk assessment, and control frameworks relevant to financial institutions.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and business acumen to develop creative solutions for complex problems.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain healthy internal and external partnerships, communicating effectively to develop trust and influence outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills, with experience coaching, mentoring, and managing professional teams.
- Commitment to CIBC's values: trust, teamwork, and accountability.
