The City of Mississauga is making significant strides towards its strategic goal of becoming a transit-oriented city, and the Rapid Transit Program Office is at the forefront of this transformation. As a Capital Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering and managing critical rapid transit project(s). This position demands strong project management skills, exceptional stakeholder relations, vendor management, procurement expertise, and a solid understanding of design and technical aspects, alongside robust communication and contract administration capabilities. You will be instrumental in guiding projects through every stage, from planning and environmental assessment to detailed design and construction, ensuring the continuous pipeline of rapid transit initiatives for Mississauga.

  • Leading and administering design reviews, construction oversight, commissioning, and handover processes for Rapid Transit Program Office projects.
  • Providing oversight of third-party activities, including early work utility relocations, land acquisition, and permit reviews and issuance on behalf of the City.
  • Ensuring coordinated and consistent reporting of issues and communications at all levels, engaging with large and complex sets of stakeholders and constituencies, including government agencies, City departments, and external consultants.
  • Managing project consultants, contractors, vendors, project teams, related meetings, and project budgets.
  • Coordinating inputs and feedback from various internal and external subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating and supervising all stages of work to ensure contract documents are compiled accurately through sound instruction and direction to staff.
  • Assisting in project control activities such as risk, cost, schedule, and document management.
  • Ensuring that project deliverables are achieved and providing professional and technical advice to address issues and move projects forward.
  • Reviewing technical reports, drawings, studies, and written comments by all stakeholders.
  • Ensuring compliance with City interests, standards, and policies.
  • Preparing technical and corporate reports to Council and working with the communication team in responding to various requests for information from citizens, staff, and members of Council.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a dedicated professional with a proven track record in municipal works and a passion for advancing rapid transit infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of strong technical knowledge, leadership qualities, and exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively manage complex projects and diverse teams. Your experience will be key to navigating the intricacies of large-scale development and ensuring successful project outcomes for the City of Mississauga.

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, combined with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the design and construction of municipal works, contract administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with PEO is considered an asset.
  • PMP designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and/or Light Rail Transit (LRT) is preferred.
  • Strong project management and contract administration skills, as demonstrated through successful experience working with contractors and consultants.
  • Experience with direct supervision of staff assigned on a project basis.
  • Strong team player with an understanding of new construction techniques and developing industry trends.
  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills with the ability to find collaborative solutions.
  • Demonstrated judgement and decision-making skills with the ability to determine an effective course of action that drives progression.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills balanced with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to change.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and team communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and execute projects utilizing sound project management principles, practices, and theories.
  • Tact and diplomacy to deal with internal and external stakeholders, including members of Council, government-related agencies, the public, and community groups.
  • Leadership competencies including strategic agility, business acumen, communication and relationship building, developing culture and people, and driving change.
  • Must have the ability to travel between various sites and facilities located across the City of Mississauga.
