Skills and Experience
The University of Toronto seeks candidates who demonstrate an exceptional record of excellence in both research and teaching, particularly within the field of Business Law.
- Hold a JD or equivalent degree.
- A doctoral degree, earned by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter, is preferred.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.
- Research and teaching expertise in Business Law, including but not limited to Corporate Law, Corporate Governance, and Securities Law.
- Ability to produce interdisciplinary scholarship that draws on economics, finance, accounting, management, political science, philosophy, or data science.
- Demonstrated ability to produce scholarship not confined primarily to the law of a single jurisdiction, valuing jurisdiction-specific expertise where it tests, refines, or develops broader conceptual, comparative, institutional, or policy arguments.
Evidence of research excellence is crucial for this faculty position and can be demonstrated through various accomplishments.

Excellence in teaching is equally important and will be assessed through a comprehensive review of teaching accomplishments and related activities.

- Evidence of superior performance in other teaching-related activities such as performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.
- Strong letters of reference.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As an Assistant Professor at the Jackman Faculty of Law, the successful candidate will engage in core academic responsibilities that drive both scholarly advancement and student learning.
- Pursue innovative and independent research.
- Establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
- Be assigned a teaching and service load within the faculty.
