Join MiWay, the City of Mississauga's transit service, as a Transit Mechanic. In this full-time permanent role, you will play a vital part in keeping the city moving by performing quality mechanical and electrical repairs on transit buses and non-revenue fleet vehicles in a fast-paced environment. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals passionate about maintaining our fleet and ensuring public transportation is reliable.
As a Transit Mechanic, you will perform maintenance and repairs on the MiWay Transit Fleet in accordance with Fleet Maintenance Section policies. This includes reading and understanding schematics, using laptop computers and electronic diagnostic readers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faults, and undertaking road call diagnosis and repair. You will work on transit fleet vehicles, sometimes under inclement weather conditions, and are expected to meet reasonable time expectations for assigned duties. Adherence to safety protocols is essential, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and possessing your own green patch CSA approved safety footwear and necessary hand tools for inspections, services, and repairs.
Candidates must have a minimum Grade 12 education and a valid Certificate of Qualification (310T - Truck and Coach) trade licence from Skilled Trades Ontario. A 310S – Automotive Service Technician trade licence is considered an asset. You should possess a minimum of five years of combined experience as an apprentice and journeyperson. A valid G Driver’s Licence is required, with a D or C Ontario Driver’s Licence with a “Z” endorsement preferred, along with a driver’s licence abstract acceptable to the City. Preferred qualifications include experience with electronic multiplexed heavy-duty diesel engine and automatic transmission vehicles, additional mechanic’s trade courses, familiarity with computerized work orders, and knowledge of the O.H. & S. Act and Regulations, including WHMIS, and the Ministry of Transportation Highway Traffic Act. The ability to work independently with minimum supervision and a willingness to stay current with new technologies and equipment for bus repairs are also important. Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
This is a full-time, permanent position offering a competitive compensation and benefits package, including an OMERS Retirement Savings Plan. The starting hourly rate is $50.53, with additional pay for shift premiums: time and one-half for Sunday shifts, $1.00 per hour for afternoon shifts, and $2.00 per hour for night shifts.
