Scotiabank's Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is seeking a Technical Specialist Advisory to join their award-winning technology engine. This pivotal role involves bridging the gap between business stakeholders and internal engineering and architect teams, ensuring the efficient development and delivery of high-quality technical solutions for diverse projects within GBME. The successful candidate will possess a results-oriented and curious mindset, combined with strong technical skills, to collaborate effectively across various teams.

Key duties

As a Technical Specialist Advisory, you will play a crucial role in the development lifecycle, contributing to market-leading solutions that deliver excellence and value to Scotiabank's business partners and customers. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrating an informed knowledge of business functions to resolve problems and capitalize on improvement opportunities.
  • Ensuring business specifications and requirements documentation is accurately prepared and comprehensive to support sizing and development efforts.
  • Developing and delivering Business Requirements Documents, Design Documents, Use Cases, and Process Models as required.
  • Participating in the development of detailed project plans, monitoring progress against planned objectives, and conducting financial reviews.
  • Working closely across GBME technology teams during all stages of the system development life cycle and bridging the gap between business and technology.
  • Liaising between the business community and the IT organisation to provide technical solutions that meet user needs.
  • Building relationships and communicating effectively with colleagues in Global regions.
  • Supporting production issues and handling escalations during Release cycles as needed.

Requirements

Essential Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in UX-focused product mindset, with hands-on experience creating wireframes, low-/high-fidelity prototypes, and workflow mockups.
  • Proven ability to validate requirements and enhance usability for trading, sales, and operations users.
  • Experience serving in Scrum Master and Agile delivery roles, facilitating Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, and Retrospectives, managing backlogs, removing impediments, and ensuring predictable delivery aligned with business priorities.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to drive incremental delivery and rapid feedback loops, operating effectively in high-pressure trading environments.
  • Proven ability to support Trading and Sales desks as a trusted technology and product partner.
  • Hands-on experience resolving trade booking issues, pricing discrepancies, workflow gaps, and time-sensitive production incidents.
  • Experience in capturing business requirements for derivatives trading applications, including trade capture and lifecycle events, and supporting UAT planning, test execution, and defect triage.
  • Experience working across multiple teams and functions to ensure alignment.
  • 3+ years practical experience in designing UI for web-based and mobile applications.
  • Experience working with all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Proficiency with UI prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and standards, with a strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver working results.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A recognized undergraduate degree or diploma in business administration, computer science, or a related field.
  • Excellent working experience of Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the Bank’s application system and software from a business/technical viewpoint to assess the impact of development and/or changes to the overall data processing environment.
  • Experience managing projects that span change in front, middle, or back-office systems and teams.
  • Experience with UI design.
  • Working knowledge of databases such as SQL Server and Unix tools is a nice-to-have.
