Position Summary

BMO is seeking a Senior Technology Manager to take on a critical leadership role, driving the bank's technology modernization and cloud transformation agenda. This position is instrumental in developing scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient platform solutions while fostering innovation, including the adoption of AI within the software development lifecycle. You will lead high-performing teams, collaborate across the organization, and ensure technology delivery aligns seamlessly with business priorities, customer needs, and financial goals.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day

As a Senior Technology Manager, your daily responsibilities will span strategic platform leadership, cross-functional collaboration, technical execution, and people management, ensuring the continuous advancement of BMO's technology landscape.

  • Lead the strategy, roadmap, and execution for customer-facing and internal platforms.
  • Ensure platform health, performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Drive modernization initiatives, including cloud migration (AWS) and architecture evolution.
  • Oversee platform adoption, track health metrics, and implement continuous improvements.
  • Champion innovation, including the integration of AI in development processes.
  • Partner with stakeholders across technology, product, design, security, and marketing to align on priorities and deliver outcomes.
  • Translate business needs into clear technical requirements, specifications, and solutions.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including compliance, licensing, and service delivery.
  • Provide leadership in solution architecture, system design, API management, and engineering best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to security, risk management, and regulatory standards.
  • Use data-driven insights to optimize platform performance and user experience.
  • Drive delivery excellence across multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of up to 15 professionals.

What You'll Bring

To excel in this Senior Technology Manager role, you will need a strong blend of leadership experience, deep technical expertise, and core professional skills, coupled with a transparent and hands-on leadership style.

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in technology leadership, engineering, or platform management.
  • Minimum 4 years of people management experience.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver complex initiatives.
  • Experience managing project financials and delivering within budget.
  • Strong experience with Java / Spring Boot.
  • Proficiency in SQL & database design (Oracle preferred).
  • Expertise in solution architecture & system design.
  • Strong background in API management & microservices.
  • Experience with DevOps and test-driven development.
  • Cloud experience (AWS preferred).
  • Understanding or experience with AI/ML integration in development processes.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and drive clarity in complex environments.
  • Data-driven decision-making mindset.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity, privacy, and platform resilience.
