About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer at Scotiabank, you will play a pivotal role in the overall success of the Payments & Core Banking Engineering globally. A key responsibility is to proactively provide guidance and recommendations on software design, collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to understand evolving Business Banking and Cash Management trends. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure components meet performance requirements and provide estimations for work breakdown, facilitating small and frequent releases to production. Your expertise will be crucial in building robust software solutions that meet stakeholder needs while continually reducing technical debt. This role also involves setting up development environments, participating in code merging and version control processes, and triaging incidents to restore services with follow-up on permanent fixes. You will create and implement technical roadmaps, and importantly, coach and mentor junior Engineers, supporting their career development and personal growth. Staying ahead of the latest technologies, tools, patterns, and best practices is expected, bringing new insights to the team for consideration. What You Need to Succeed
To succeed in this Senior Software Engineer role at Scotiabank, candidates must possess at least seven years of professional software development experience, specifically delivering scalable, high-performance systems. A minimum of three years in a senior or lead developer capacity is also required, demonstrating proven technical leadership and mentoring capabilities. You should have a track record of delivering enterprise-grade solutions under tight timelines. Expert-level experience with core Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, RESTful services, microservice design, and distributed systems is essential. A strong understanding of event-driven architectures, asynchronous patterns, domain-driven design (DDD), and clean architecture will be critical. Hands-on experience with testing frameworks such as Junit and Mockito, along with integration and performance testing, is expected.
