About the Role

As a Senior AI Engineer at Sun Life in Toronto, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence within the organisation. You will work closely with the Enterprise Architect to design and implement robust solutions that align with the platform capabilities roadmap. A significant part of your responsibilities will involve researching and piloting the latest GenAI technologies and practices, ensuring Sun Life remains at the forefront of innovation. You will be expected to champion a culture of continuous improvement, actively motivating change and fostering innovation within your team. This includes designing, deployment, and managing API infrastructure on AWS platforms, creating and maintaining essential technical design artifacts. You will also enhance our DevOps practices and tools to enforce software guardrails, increase automation, and help engineers build code faster, at a lower cost, and lower risk. Owning deployment processes and establishing best practices for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) are crucial, alongside handling model components versioning across development and production environments. Furthermore, you will support infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code practices, staying current with industry advancements in cloud technologies, AWS services, and AI/ML. Providing post-production support for deployed applications, including troubleshooting and performance optimization, is also a key aspect of this dynamic role, ensuring continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile

To succeed as a Senior AI Engineer, you will bring a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a relevant field. Exceptional communication skills are paramount, enabling you to articulate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You must possess hands-on expertise with Python, AWS Lambda, Java, and APIs, coupled with strong experience in developing AI bots/agents. A deep understanding of AWS services and cloud infrastructure is essential, alongside proficiency in API development and management. Familiarity with chatbot development concepts, RAG techniques, and vector databases will be highly valued. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with DevOps culture, tools, and best practices, as well as proven experience with deployment automation and CI/CD pipelines. Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, along with familiarity with GenAI models and their deployment considerations, is also required. Furthermore, proven leadership skills, with the ability to guide agile teams across multiple locations, are critical. Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and the capacity to assess alternatives, risks, and benefits, are expected. A commitment to fostering a collaborative, transparent, and trust-based team culture, demonstrated through success in coaching and mentoring junior engineers in an Agile team setting, will set you apart.
