Join Scotiabank's Innovative Technology Team in Toronto

Scotiabank, a leading Canadian bank, is actively seeking a talented Solutions Architect to join its rapidly growing Real Estate Lending Systems (RESL) Engineering team in Toronto, Ontario. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with significant experience in transforming complex banking systems through cloud computing and architecting highly available, large-scale, API-enabled applications. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture where every team member is empowered to contribute to building the bank of the future. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in evolving our business-critical application suite, ensuring high-quality new builds, seamless enhancements, and robust production stability. Details

Driving Architectural Design and Business Solutions

As a Solutions Architect, your primary responsibility will involve maintaining, supporting, and enhancing existing applications while adhering to stringent specifications, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and functionality. A critical aspect of this role is identifying areas for continuous improvement across system reliability, processing and response times, permanent remediation of production issues, data volume management, and document storage and retrieval. You will be expected to maintain a current and thorough knowledge of the Mortgage Rapid Lab’s environment and specific applications, coupled with a deep understanding of the underlying business systems. A core function involves leading architectural design discussions, with a strong focus on scalability, and the design and implementation of industry best practices. This includes creating comprehensive architectural solutions, roadmaps, and related strategies that align seamlessly with Enterprise Standards, driving the modernization of software applications across the bank. You will present these innovative solutions to various stakeholders, including the Architecture Review Board, technical teams, business partners, networks, and security teams, securing necessary approvals. Furthermore, assessing and analysing business strategy and requirements, evaluating the current technical environment, and exploring technology options will be crucial to propose effective solution alternatives that meet both business needs and the overarching bank strategy.

Required Expertise and Skills

To succeed in this challenging role, candidates should possess extensive software engineering industry experience, ideally over ten years, with a preference for banking sector experience, particularly in mortgage systems. Expert knowledge of industry-standard front-end technologies, encompassing user experience, single-page applications, and robust API design, is essential. Proficiency in server-side implementations, including Microservices, session management, and caching, along with experience in architecting solutions impacting digital and book-of-record systems across diverse technology stacks, is required. We are seeking individuals with a working knowledge of front-end concerns relevant to full-stack architecture, such as state management and server-side versus client-side rendering. Demonstrable experience with Java, Spring Boot, Web services (SOAP and RESTful), relational databases, and secure coding practices is critical. The ability to design and implement highly available, extensible APIs, coupled with experience in process methodologies like Agile and SDLC, is also key. A strong awareness of how scalable, secure, enterprise-level software systems are designed, both at code and infrastructure levels, is expected. Furthermore, knowledge of structured Enterprise Architecture practices, hybrid cloud deployments, and experience with public cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure will be highly valued. Your contributions will also extend to providing input into technology and infrastructure roadmaps for the division, leveraging your extensive knowledge to guide future design and implementation efforts for our critical banking systems.
