Key Responsibilities and Impact

As a Reliability Engineer, your primary focus will be to embed industry reliability best practices into the overall operations and maintenance activities at the Horizon site. A core responsibility involves developing, optimizing, and sustaining robust maintenance strategies specifically for rotating equipment, aiming to significantly improve asset performance and operational efficiency. You will provide essential day-to-day engineering support, ensuring the maximum reliability and availability of critical rotating equipment within the Bitumen Production area. This includes meticulous tracking of reliability performance and evaluating the effectiveness of various reliability programs against established goals. Furthermore, you will play a key role in supporting Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations into critical equipment and process failures, ensuring that corrective actions are clearly defined and effectively implemented. Routine audits of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical assets will also be part of your duties, verifying their effectiveness, efficiency, and cost optimization across all operations. Your analytical skills will be vital in conducting thorough analysis to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous enhancement in equipment reliability.

Qualifications and Expertise

To excel in this role, candidates must bring a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, coupled with demonstrated proficiency in rotating equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta is mandatory, alongside a minimum of five years of experience, preferably within heavy industrial environments such as Mining, Mineral Processing Plants, or Oil Sands operations. Strong technical knowledge of various rotating equipment, including motors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, crushers, and conveying systems, is crucial, along with familiarity with applicable codes and standards like API, ANSI/HI, and CEMA.
