About the Role
Trillium Health Partners operates a Regional Cardiac Program, collaborating with partners to deliver comprehensive services and care. The 2C Cardiology unit, located at Mississauga Hospital, is a 50-bed inpatient, acute care unit. This unit supports a wide variety of complex cardiology patients, working closely with the Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Short Stay, and Coronary Care Unit. Our primary focus is on medical management and minimally invasive procedures, and we also serve as the main home for post surgical care for THP's Vascular Surgery population. A broad team of skilled, interdisciplinary professionals supports our patients, ensuring they receive the best possible care.
This is a full-time position offering 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
As a Registered Nurse in Cardiology, you will initiate and maintain IV therapy, administer medication above the drip chamber, and manage blood and blood product administration. You will perform blood glucose monitoring, manage nasogastric tubes, and apply wound management skills. Key duties include implementing routine and additional infection control precautions, monitoring and interpreting normal and abnormal lab values. You will also be responsible for providing educational teaching to patients and families, facilitating patient and family-centred care, and establishing therapeutic relationships.
Requirements
Candidates must be a graduate of a recognised College or School of Nursing, preferably holding a Baccalaureate degree. You must be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or meet the eligibility criteria to register in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required, along with successful completion of the Coronary Care 1 course or a commitment to complete it within six months. A minimum of one year of acute care medicine, cardiac, or surgical experience is essential, and a physical assessment course is also required.
Preferred qualifications include telemetry experience, recent experience with inpatient cardiology or cardiac surgery populations, and completion of the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) course. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, interprofessional teamwork, ongoing professional development, and experience with EPIC and computer skills are also preferred. A positive work and attendance record is essential.
