The Role at Scotiabank
As a Private Cloud Engineer at Scotiabank in Toronto, you will play a pivotal role within the Global Technology and Enterprise Platforms team, contributing to the overall success of private cloud engineering initiatives across Canada. This position requires a strong customer focus, championing client relationships and leveraging the Bank's broader systems and knowledge. A core responsibility involves the research, design, testing, and deployment of advanced cloud platforms, specifically on Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) and on-prem VMware vSphere, vRealize Suite, and VMware Cloud Foundation. You will also be instrumental in the design and deployment of migration solutions, such as VMware HCX, working closely with migration teams and project managers to define data migration checklists for moving VMware VMs from on-premise environments to GCVE. Furthermore, the role extends to researching, designing, testing, and deploying cloud infrastructure on Dell Powerflex and VxRail solutions, guiding administrators in implementing new cloud services into production. Managing and administering backup solutions for the cloud platform is also a key duty, alongside providing Level 2 support and vendor escalations for management tools and cloud services, which includes participating in on-call shifts. Developing and documenting operational procedures for service administration and operations teams is essential, ensuring efficient and effective operations in an inclusive and high-performing culture.
Skills and Experience Required
To succeed in this Private Cloud Engineer role, candidates must possess excellent customer relationship and communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical solutions and leading discussions with both business and technical audiences. A significant requirement is at least five years of hands-on technical working experience with the design, deployment, management, or operational support of VMware vSphere Hypervisor or VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). Additionally, a minimum of two years of hands-on technical experience is essential for the design, deployment, management, or operational support of Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE), including NSX-T. The ideal candidate will also bring at least two years of hands-on technical working experience in designing and deploying migration solutions, specifically migrating VMware VMs between datacentres or from on-premise to public cloud environments using tools like HCX or Platespin. Furthermore, at least one year of hands-on technical working experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is required, along with at least two years of hands-on experience with the VMware vRealize suite, encompassing vRealize Automation, Operation Manager, Log Insight, and Network Insight. Three or more years of hands-on technical working experience with Microsoft Windows Server administration (2012/2016/2019) and/or Red Hat Linux administration (7.x) and Red Hat Satellite administration are also critical. While not mandatory, experience with RedHat OpenShift Virtualization and ACM, Dell VxRail and/or Powerflex hyperconverged clusters, and various VM or physical machine backup products like Cohesity, Dell EMC Data Domain, Rubrik, or Veeam would be highly beneficial. Proficiency in scripting languages such as VMware PowerCLI, PowerShell, and Python, along with a strong technical understanding of networking, storage, and security concepts, technologies, and operational experience, will further enhance a candidate's profile for this technical design and deployment role.
